Enrolment Procedures

If you would like your daughter to attend St John's Girls' School, you need to fill in an "Application for Admission".  On receipt of your application your daughter's name is added to a list, recorded by year level and by date of application.  Applications are accepted based on space in the class and numbers in the school.  The school has a roll cap of 150 students.  As soon as there is a space, you will be notified.  Applications may be accepted immediately if there is a place available or as a space becomes available during the year.

If your daughter is accepted during the year, you are welcome to visit and see the school in action. This helps your daughter to feel at ease about changing schools.  Acceptance of an Application for Admission is advised as early as possible.  If you do not hear from us to let you know there is a space, you will be contacted annually, either by letter or a phone call to let you know your daughter's enrolment status.

If your daughter is a new entrant who has been accepted, Mrs Cardno, the deputy principal and new entrant teacher will contact you approximately one month before your daughter is due to start to arrange pre enrolment visits to make starting at St John's a happy experience.  If your daughter is accepted as part of the annual intake but is not a five year old, we have an orientation morning in November to make the transition to a new school easier. New entrant girls may also attend this day but they often find it overwhelming and are better to have the pre enrolment visits where it is just them.

The priority order for being accepted is:

  • Boarders
  • Siblings of current students
  • Other applications based on availability of a space

Visiting the school is the best way to make your decision.  Almost without exception, parents who visit, apply for their daughter to attend.  It is a great school.

To arrange a visit, contact Brenda Mackay, the principal.

The format of a visit: The principal will meet with you and then two girls (usually the same age as your daughter) will be chosen, to take you and your daughter around the school so you can ask questions and find out from the girls what the school is like. This provides you with an honest appraisal of the school and it is a good leadership opportunity for the girls. They do it very well.
