Enrolment Scheme

Updated December 2020

St John’s Girls’ School is an interdenominational Christian state-integrated school. A preference applicant for St John’s Girls’ School is a student whose family religious affiliation is Christian.

This means you:

  1. Support the school in the provision of education based on the beliefs and philosophies of the Christian faith;
  2. Support the school in the provision of an education balanced between tuition, religious, recreational, and cultural activities aimed at developing character and independence in students;
  3. Support the school in the provision of instruction in the Christian faith;
  4. Support the school in the pursuit of excellence in all fields of endeavour within the school and the development of each individual child within a family atmosphere.

The school’s roll will be managed within the maximum roll prescribed in the school’s integration agreement.

PRIORITY IN ENROLMENT

Applications for enrolment at each year level will be processed in the following order of priority:

First Priority will be given to preference applicants for whom the school is reasonably convenient. The area of reasonable convenience is shown on the attached map.

If including all first priority applicants would exceed the school’s maximum roll then places will be given to preference applicants, based in order of the following categories:
1.1 Who are siblings of current pupils
1.2 Who are siblings of former pupils
1.3 Who are children of permanent board employees
1.4 Other students

Where the number of places available at any year level runs out within any of the category levels 1 to 4 above, priority in each category will be assigned based on the order in which the enrolment applications were received by the school.

Second Priority will be given to preference applicants living outside the area of reasonable convenience. If including all second priority applicants would exceed the school’s maximum roll then places will be given to preference applicants, based in order of the following categories:
2.1 Who are siblings of current pupils
2.2 Who are siblings of former pupils
2.3 Who are children of permanent board employees
2.4 Other students

Where the number of places available at any year level runs out within any of the category levels 1 to 4 above, priority in each category will be assigned based on the order in which the enrolment applications were received by the school.

Third Priority will be given to non-preference applicants. Non-preference students will be enrolled only if enrolment places remain after all preference applicants have been enrolled and the board judges that enrolment of the non-preference student will not compromise its ability to offer places to preference students who might apply for enrolment at a later date.

If including all third priority applicants would exceed the school’s maximum roll then places will be given to non-preference applicants, based in order of the following categories:
3.1 Who are siblings of current pupils
3.2 Who are siblings of former pupils
3.3 Who are children of permanent board employees
3.4 Other students

Where the number of places available at any year level runs out within any of the category levels 1 to 4 above, priority in each category will be assigned based on the order in which the enrolment applications were received by the school.

Unsuccessful Applicants

Unsuccessful applicants at each year level will have their names recorded on a waiting list, within their relevant priority category, ranked in the order of the date in which the application was received by the school. The waiting list at each year level will remain current until the board next notifies the public that it is inviting applications for new enrolment intake.

PRE-ENROLMENT

Each year applications will be sought by a date which will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. Students on the current waiting list do not need to re-apply for enrolment as their application will automatically be included in pre-enrolment procedures, and will be subject to the criteria specified in the enrolment scheme. No enrolments will be confirmed more than one year prior to the proposed year of entry.

Effective date of amended scheme: 01 February 2021
