St John's Girls' School is an interdenominational Christian school and is steeped with wonderful traditions, strong values, and a warm family spirit. We are located in a park-like setting in the centre of Invercargill.
Our values are the important qualities we strive to live by and demonstrate in the way we go about our work, and in the relationships we have with others in our school.
St John’s was established in 1917 by the St John’s Anglican Church. After the depression, when the Church could no longer support the school, a new school board was formed and St John’s Girls’ School became independent. In 1990 St John’s became an integrated school, retaining its Christian base.
Over the years the school has grown and developed into a high-performing school well-known for its confident, articulate students who have a strong work ethic and who are well-rounded individuals. The small size means that every girl is known by everyone and is cared for. Pastoral care is important and our small class sizes are important to the well-being and education of our girls.
We are proud of St John’s Girls’ School and welcome the opportunity to share it with you. We invite you to visit us and see the school in action.

Dear Room 3 Whanau.
As part of our art this term we are investigating and exploring traditional maori kites. We will be making these kites as a piece of art and linking them with our matariki mahi.
The children need to collect and bring to school “natural” resources that could include any of the following; feathers, shells, small rocks, paua shell pieces etc. A good starting point could be a walk around the beach.
Please bring to Room 3 in a named bag to be kept in children’s trays.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards,
Kate McIlwrick and Anya Raines.

We are delighted to be able to take our Year 7 and 8 girls to the final dress rehearsal of the SBHS/SGHS senior production on Tuesday 21 May.
We will be leaving school by bus at 9.35am for CentreStage and returning to school at 12.20pm, in plenty of time for the afternoon Cross Country.
The girls will love the opportunity and experience.

A kilt has been lost from the senior cloakroom this afternoon. It has likely gone into someone else's bag by mistake as the girls were getting changed into their PE gear. Please have your daughter check their bags for an extra kilt and return it to Room 8 if found.
